Whitman College Caps Tuition at 10% of Your Family's Income — and Covers It Fully If You Earn Under $100K

Whitman College caps tuition at 10% of family income, with full tuition coverage for households earning $100K or less — the Washington liberal arts school's new 10% Promise takes effect for the 2026–27 academic year.

Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington just announced the Whitman 10% Promise: starting in 2026–27, no student will pay more than 10% of their family's adjusted gross income in tuition. If your household earns $100,000 or less, tuition — listed at $68,692 for the year — is fully covered by scholarships. A family earning $150,000 would pay no more than $15,000 in tuition, bringing total cost of attendance (including housing, food, and books) to about $32,928 per year. Whitman pulls the income figure directly from your FAFSA, so there's no separate application for the discount. If you're considering small liberal arts colleges and cost has been the barrier, Whitman's calculator is worth running your numbers through right now.
